Westminster Choir College
Associate Professor
Dr. Sean McCarther is Associate Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College, where he teaches studio voice, voice science, and movement for performers. An advocate for physical theater and mobile singers, Dr. McCarther has created a movement-based performance pedagogy that helps students learn to actively engage their environment, their scene partners, and the audience with the highest potential expression. Scholarly research in the areas of movement, alignment, and performance psychology include multiple publications, conference presentations both nationally and internationally, and numerous workshops at universities around the country. Dr. McCarther has collaborated with professional violence choreographer Jacqueline Holloway on the workshop “Consent and Creating Safe Theatrical Spaces.” This workshop explores how actors and directors can work collaboratively to create safe and open spaces for artists, empowering them to take creative risks in emotionally charged scenes.
